Mitsubishi hopes its newest Galant - specifically designed and built for the U.S. market - will become the best-selling car in the company's North American lineup. The completely redesigned Galant will be unveiled today in Central Illinois during a media event at the Normal plant, where it is built. It debuted Wednesday in New York.
Mitsubishi expects the 2004 Galant to reach annual sales of 100,000, making it the best selling vehicle in the company's North American lineup.
The entry level Galant DE V6 is expected to start at under $19,000. It includes automatic transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, 140-watt CD audio system, keyless entry and power windows, locks and side-view mirrors. The GTS model includes leather- trimmed interior, 17-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, front- and side- impact air bags and 270-watt Mitsubishi/Infinity premium audio system.
"The completely redesigned 2004 Mitsubishi Galant takes on the biggest names in mid-size sedans with a whole new attitude," said Pierre Gagnon, chairman and chief executive officer of Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc.
The Galant and the new Endeavor SUV are part of Mitsubishi's Project America series.
"New spirited products, in new segments, are keying our growth," Gagnon said in a statement issued Wednesday. "Our family of vehicles is growing to meet a broader family of Mitsubishi Motors' consumers who, in 2003, will have more of our cars and SUVs to choose from than ever before, something for every stage of their lives."
