If you have never riden a bike, start with something small. The 250 is really small and you'll want to sell it with in no time.
I'm looking to get a bike in the next year or so myself and have been told to get a 500 or 650 to start off with, it'll have enough nuts to keep me happy for a while, looking at a EX500, new goes for about 6Gs CND ifI remeber correctly.

Why not look at an older bike?
