Turboing without proper knowledge is dangerous, period. When people tell you 8 PSI is "safe," they're assuming you can tune your car reasonably. When they tell you 10 PSI is "safe," they're assuming you can tune it well. Above that and they're just assuming you've got some lord master of the V-AFC at your beck and call.
To put it another way: Even 6 psi is unsafe when you don't know what the hell you are doing.
