Try this... Make the noise by accelerating above 25mph. Then shift to 4th & try again, then try 3rd. All at the same road speed.

If the noise is in your axles & CV joints then it'll sound the same. If its valves or something in your engine, it'll go faster in 4th & even faster yet in 3rd.

Anyway, checking your valve adjustment can't hurt.
