I've been running both my civics for about 6 months without dust covers and no problems yet.The same thing happened to my front skunk coilovers.Every bump felt like there was metal to metal or something.Very harsh.The metal top part of the dust boot was hitting the sleeve.It damaged it a little but not too bad before I took it out.
