You read the time (and date) from the side, right above where the bracelet connects to the watch body. The timepiece itself is that square red plastic thing. It's hermetically sealed with epoxy. The part that would normally be the watch's face is a pair of sloar cells that recharge the batteries. Those little sliders on either side are magnets that trigger the switches inside the watch, so you can see and set the time. Unfortunately the NiCd batteries have long since died, and nobody knows how to service such a thing. It's still the coolest watch on earth IMHO.
