It won't break the bank but it is wasteful if it is not needed and unless you detect sluggish peformance it's not going to harm your engine. These manufacturers spend years of time and millions of dollars on the research to make this possible. People want things that are going to last a long time, and are relatively low maintenance. They also want to feel like they are getting the most for their dollar. Manufacturers responded with cars that can no go longer intervals before the oil is changed and much farther before you have to fill up your gas tank. These things are also better for the environment. If you drive hard or in extreme conditions, then yeah maybe do the changes a little more often. But if not, if you drive normal, then wake up, relaize this is the 21st century and stop being so paranoid over these oil change theories. The best thing to do is follow the recommendations the manufacturer has issued and maybe use BETTER oils and gas each time you do the change. Save your money, spend it on something else and maybe help revive this economy so another jobless American can get hired somewhere to help support his family!
