For one or two years (I believe it was in the late 80’s [sorry, I couldn’t find the exact dates]), Bridgeport had the highest murder rate per capita in the United States. In 1993, Bridgeport ranked 11th on the national list of killings per capita, which was higher than large cities like Newark and Los Angeles. So imagine this, for 365 days – every time you wake up - you stand a 1 in 2,333 chance of being murdered. That was the odds for every one of the roughly 140,000 residents that year alone. I guess that’s what you get when you have the highest population in the state crammed into a roughly 17 square mile area, unhappy sardine syndrome.
Sorry Reno your figures were for all crimes...not murder. The above quote is all I have found so far and I was only 1 off. (I said top 10)
