Yes, that's true. I used a soldering iron to melt away the middle tab of the 9005 bulb to get it to fit inside the headlight socket, not the 9006 wire socket.
I tried to melt away the guides inside the 9005 bulb, but it was too much work. I remembered that someone on this board said you could just remove the clip; that's what I did and it worked like a charm.
