They are only side specific. So the outside should face out.
I know people who flipped their Azenis the opposite way and didn't find any negative handling characteristics, but I wouldn't want ot try it 
the treadwear is what will suffer, but when you only get 20K out of the tires, then that's not long enough to hurt much....the s02 pole positions make a ton of noise when ran backward and suck on wet roads
