In my car when my rear brakes were going bad, the brakes automatically make a weird sound to let me know that they are going bad. They said it was normal, I had to get new brake pads, at first I thought my master cylendar was bad but it was fine.

I would suggest getting them checked out by a local Midas or some reputable shop, better safe than sorry. And if you do in fact need work, they wont charge you for the "checking it out", if you pay them to do the work for you.
