Sounds like you may have hit the limiter, and that doesn't do anything but shut the fuel supply down to drop the revs. But when you take it in to service it, the ECU will tattle on you to the mechanics if they do any computer diagnostics.
When the car is cold, so is the oil, so the cams wont activate when it hits the VTEC range. At a standstill teh car will not let you rev past 5500, cold or warm. Id becareful, you could damage somethin.
