You would end up spending the difference in price in aftermarket parts just to get the engine to the same horsepower, and then you would need to spend more for the suspension. The six speed is a closer ratio gearbox than the 5 speed also. I don't see that the cost of fuel is such a big deal in the S compared to the base, there is less than a 10% difference in price here. If you are easy on the throttle you still get an average of 28 mpg, and on longer drives we've gotten 32-33 mpg in the TypeS. Boosting performance with some aftermarket items may actually take away from the gas mileage.
