Default 98 type R, best route to go when rebuilding

I just bought a 98 theft recovery type R. The motor was stolen along with the front end body panels.

I'm thinking, since the motor is gone and a new type R motor will run me over $5600, should I go GSR turbo? It will cost me about the same amount of money. But is that smart? Because then the car is not a type R anymore. The owner of a local race shop told me to keep it as a type R, and NOT put a gsr in there, even if it is turbo.

The whole reason I'm concerned is because of resale value. Will future buyers not treat is a type R if the motor is a GSR turbo? I'm thinking most buyers will not be concerned that its not a type R motor because its cranking out 300 hp, but this other guy doesn't agree.
