Default Swap Update* ANDY

I figured I would update the status of my swap. Well, I have driven it for the first time. MY GOD!!!!! Finally!!!!! I have waited soooo long for this day to come. It has been 6 months since I got the motor and about 2 months since I started fixing it. I put about another $1200 into the engine itself and tons of labor time. Well anyways, I of course was waiting upon the arrival of my JUN chipped GSR ecu. Well, it came into my moms work today and I picked it up and headed over to the garage. We got crackin by first raising my ride a little since the motor made it even more slammed then it previously was. Put it this way, now you can see more than half of my tire. I still have them tucked a little because I just love that slammed effect. After that, I had to turn the clamps on my exhaust pipe upside down because they hang where the bolt is. So I just loosened it and flipped it upside down and tightened it again. After that, I took my old gsr shifter off and put my brand new out of an unmarked box chrome short shifter on. After that, we put the car back on the ground and plugged in the ecu. I started the car and man it idled nice finally! No rough idle or cut outs, just pure smooth idling. Well, we noticed that tons of smoke was coming out of the muffler. So, we stopped the car and just checked the spark plugs (we already knew they were bad). Well come to find out, there is a whole **** load of oil in plugs 1 and 3. We were like oh **** a crack in the head or a leak of some kind. We cleaned the spark plug and put them back in to make sure it wasnt just build up. I started it again and then we hear a ticking noise. Like a valve knocking. I start thinking to myself, oh god another **** load of $$$ to fix that! I stopped the car and we continued to check the spark plugs. NO OIL!!!! Thank god... so we move on to the knocking. We take the valve cover off and try to tighten the valve springs because that was one of our guesses. We torqued them to spec becasue they weren't. We thought that would have fixed the knocking, but when we started it again, the knocking continued. Then out of no where, my younger cousin points out that one of the header nuts are loose. I could have sworn that we torqued those to spec, but we checked anyways and found out that they weren't. Good thing for checking. Started the car again and no ticking. No leaks, no overheating, no weird noises, etc... So after that, it seemed deemable for the road. By that time, it was 9p.m and everyone was getting tired but was anxious for a ride. We picked up some high temp rtv for the valve cover and seals around the spark plug holes (just incase there was a hairline leak) and put in the new denso platinum spark plugs I picked up as well. After that, we put water in the radiator, filled it with all the other liquids it needed and we carb shot the throttle body just as an extra. What we did was spray carb cleaner into the throttle body while I pressed on the gas so that we could try and get some of the build up out of that motor. Worked a little but still smokes alot out of the exhaust pipe. Well I seem to enjoy typing but I may possibly be causing you lack of sleep so I will try to hurry up. After a few trial drives (YEAAAA), I brought it back. We noticed that It was backfiring alot and there were flames coming out of the back every so often. Also, we noticed that the throttle cable is starting to unwrap itself because of wear done to it. We tried using lubricant to make for an easy slide, but no luck. It sticks really hard and may be the leading cause of my newfound problems. Yes, after all of that money, labor, and time, there are still fairly big problems with the motor. Whenever driving down the road from 0 mph like a stop, it likes to hop, in other words, when the car jerks like a beginner driver does. I think that may be caused by the throttle cable sticking. Because after you get going, it stops doing it in the higher rpm. Again, when you shift to second, it starts to do it again. Also, there is alot of backfire in the lower rpms as well. In every gear. We think that the cause of that would be too much fuel being put into the motor. "Running Rich" as some call it. What else, thats all the problems besides the motor getting really hot, but thats just because im running that motor off of a civic VX radiator. Works fine for a while. So what is your guy's call on the backfire and hopping. So the crew thinks I should invest in an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator so I can adjust the fuel so it doesn't run so rich. When I was driving home tonight though, I figured that it could be something else. Whenever I went from a stop, I could hear nothing and then a big suck and then it drove fine. Well, I was thinking that since I have the intake filter on the throttle body with no intake pipe, plus the hood on, that maybe its not getting enough air in the lower rpms because im going slow and when I speed up, it gets enough air flow. THat is what I think. One more thing. No matter my speed, rpm, etc. I press the gas lightly so I can keep a certain speed and it doesnt do anything until I press slightly harder and then it speeds up.. I let of softly enough to quit speeding up but to stay at an idle pace and it stops giving gas. Then I press a little harder and it kicks in. I think that is the throttle cable sticking, but I dont know. My main concern is what is causing that massive backfire, it is so massive it shakes my car when backfiring. Anyways, what could cause that. Any of our guesses? Also, what is causing the hopping and crappy low rpms? Any of our guesses? Please give any suggestions and/or ideas on how to solve these problems. It finally runs Andy and it is quick!
