You can drive on a bad CV Boot for a little while but it isn't really sugfested since water and grime will collect and end up causing the joints to wear out faster, leading to possible failure.

I have driven on them before with no problems but I always ended up replacing the CVs (actually the shafts its easier and cheaper).
