It will cut your engine life (maybe not in half) just due to increased wear and tear. But this issue usually comes up with supercharging.
People will tell you boost is boost and that with proper tuning you'll be fine blah blah blah but the bottom line is that if you want to go fast you'll need to work your components harder. What do you want your car to do?
