actually, i think it's more of a rip-off on the part of the muffler garage.
the stock tips are just bolt-ons. I think there are 1 or two tightening screws on each one. Now, your muffler goes bad, not the stock flare tips. why doesn't the muffler shop just take the old stock tips and bolt them onto the new muffler.
i betcha alot of muffler shops got a lot of used 4th/5th gen flare tips for sale.
