Since you do not need coilovers for what you want to do with the car and the amount of drop you are considering-don't do it that way. Go with springs and shocks only. I have Neuspeed SPort on my 99 and Koni shocks-great ride and they work on the track at Pocono too. Others will suggest the Eibach Prokit or H&R. Those are also good choices-but I have a preference that I know works (tried the Prokit at took 'em off). The shocks are just as important and I'm very biased about this-it is Koni for me, period.
They are worth every penny you pay for them for both ride control and comfort. The warranty is no nonsense (forever basically).
For a 1" drop you can go with some very interesting parts-but why bother. I know where you are and the Neuspeed Sport springs will do fine even with 17" rims. If you think it is bad there, come to Pittsburgh

. One last thing-for ANY drop you will need a 4-wheel alignment. If over 1" there is a possibility that you will need Camber kits. They can be a wise investment anyway. You got Q's-drop me an e-mail.
Happy Luding
