We're pretty slack in general, but in the tech forums we like to keep it all neat and concise, like qt said.
I may come off a little harsh, but the real reason behind the policy is that on some forums (names withheld), someone asks a question such as "Is (insert part here) good?" And they're bombarded with a half dozen yes or no answers, 30 smileys, and some flaming on how stupid they are for not knowing the answer already.

That person hasn't learned anything other than not to buy the part, and not to ask questions.

But if someone responds with "Hey, don't buy that, it doesn't work because ..." then they've A) Learned not to buy the product, B) Learned WHY not to buy the product, and C) Will be able to figure out what other similar products they shouldn't buy. All because someone bothered to post a sentence rather than a smiley or a couple words.

That is how we try to work here. You don't have to be a technical genius or a professional writer, and it isn't the end of the world if you say something wrong. We just want people to learn rather than hop on the 'This is good, that is bad' bandwagon. Sorry for not posting a more complete comment before, but I was on my way to dinner.
