you want an OBD1 engine since your car is OBD1. so 92-95. 96 is the first year of OBD2. it depends how fast you wanna be. i am running a stock internal F23 turbo putting down 221hp and 238ft/lbs. the stock H22 will put you at 165hp and 150ft/lbs. if your motor is in good shape i would suggest going turbo. its a lot of fun. but then again i'm sure 8500rpms is a lot of fun also. i'll tell you right now that a turbo F22/23 running 8-10lbs will smoke an H22. but the H22 has more room to build onto if you plan on adding more down the road
