The whole size needs to be 3x5 inorder to fit the piping in there....Make sure to cover the edges of the metal with something to pretty rubbing and cutting into the CAI...

Good luck....I used a small hack saw to make the cuts, but I have also seen people drill about 50 holes and then hit is with a hammer...Not the best thing to do but it works....
