It's just taking the signal like an aftermarket tach would. You don't have to disconnect your tach to install an aftermarket one...just a signal wire, not a power wire. Besides the signal is gonna be coming from the tachometer test terminal on the firewall anyway. So no, this won't affect the ECU or anything else in the electrical system.
