I totally agree with you Blackmagik. The Iraqi people are sick of fighting and most will surender due to lack of moral. However keep in mind this is only the people outside of Baghdad. Inside Bagdad is a whole nother story with the Special Republican Guard. Those guys are a very proud group and very well trained. They fight to the death to ensure their way of life. That is the heart of Saddam's reign. It is said it will take about 500,000 US troops just to go against the Republican Guard on their turf. Also keep in mind that back in the 90's their was a group of countries aiding the US against Iraq, one of which was Saudi Arabia. In this new war, I do not think that Saudia Arabia will hose the US forces due to a Muslim uprising. I have talked with a friend of mine that just came back from Egypt about a year ago and he said the general view of the people their is that if war with Iraq happens then Egypt will fight AGAINST the US. Egypt has a very large population of Muslims as well.
I really do not think a war against Iraq is going to be the best choice in this situation. Im sure if it came down to it the US would win as we have the most firepower, but this will be at the cost of thousands of lives lost. Think back to the days of Hiroshima and Nagazaki (sorry if I butchered the names), we wanted to end a costly battle and at what means but mass genocide. This may happen again.
actually a large amount of the iraqi soldiers that surrendered in 91 were part of the special republican guard or whatever it's called. war with iraq is the only option right now, anything less would be political suicide on a global scale. we have to show the world that we mean what we say or this country will be labled, globally, as a pushover. that would be worse than war. the economic effects of that would last decades.
