I think it might not be just a "gimmick". AEM bought out some company that introduced this technology into their intakes and now AEM will release it as a V2. Who knows, it might give good gains. But yeah, seeing independent dyno results will be more believable than from AEM's web site.
Listen, a PIPE is a PIPE. Your paying for the name "AEM" nothing else. The difference between a generic CAI and a AEM V2 or regular AEM is the filter. Put a K&N on a eBay CAI and walah you have a AEM intake.
