I hate to cross post but here's a review I did of the silverstars, also comparing them to real HID, and halogen at the same time.
9005st comparable to osram 4300k rebased d2s: color? no... output?? NOT a chance.
here's a spield I posted in another place.
Ok, I've been hearing all the hype and being somewhat of a lighting fanatic I had to go out and get a set. Well I'm disappointed. They aren't "all that". I've gone through so many different light bulbs it's not even funny, I've done polarg, sylvania cool blues, nokya(actic white and arctic purple), PIAA super plasma and Something that I was told translated to super HID(I got them in hong kong no english at all on the packaging), 4300K HID, and so many other including my other cars.
I had nokya artic blue in my high beams for quite some time because they had decent light output and were almost a perfect match for my 4300K which uses rebased osram bulbs which are known for having a tad of yellow in them.I went down to my local kragen and picked up a pair of 9005st silverstars. I can honestly say these aren't that much better than cool blue lamps in terms of color, but they are pretty happy in brightness, although still no match for my 4300K hid. I was going to take the silverstars out and put the nokyas back in, but it was cold as hell and I'm lazy, so just note that nokya arctic blue are almost exactly the same color as my hid with a bit more a blue componenet, and much more dim(sad having your high beams being less potent than low beams).
Next week I should be done with my hella 90mm projector retrofit with philips bulbs which are much whiter and have a strong hue of blue in them, then I'll take some more pics.
For the sake of reference since I couldn't get the white balance and exposure perfect, my HID are almost identical to a TL HID setup, since I'm using reflectors and osram bulbs just like they do.
here's some pics, top pair are 4300k rebased osram HID with OEM fogs which are some of the whitest regular halogens around, I remember when I got the fogs they made my low beams look so yellow it wasn't even funny, bottom pair of pics are HID with silverstars. The pictures are unedited except for size.
Pictures were taken with a nikon coolpix 4500 up against a white tarp in my garage with almost zero ambient light.
auto saturation, auto white balance
-1.5 saturation, flourescent white balance preset, iso 800 sensativity
final thought, the silverstars are pretty bright compared to all of the blue "painted" bulbs I've tried, and much brighter than either set of PIAA I had of which were twice as expensive, but if you are looking for the HID look, then these aren't for you. THey are much more white that stock, but they aren't HID look alikes.
