Default cold weather start!

hi, i have a 98 civic ex coupe, its like -16degrees outside, i left my car outside for like more than 12 hours. when i tried to start it this morning, the battery seems weak, it cracked for couple seconds, then it started, but if i let the key ignition go, it will die, but if i hold it on for littlebit longer after it had been started, it will not stall. it starts find when its warm.

also is it not good for the engine and the starter if i keep cracking on the ignition after it has been started?

thanks you!!!
