Yeh I wouldn't do it either... I mean technically you could hold the gear in place longer but I would assume wear on the tranny... not worth it... its fine to go 3-4-3....so on tho... I do it all the time for hills and cornering and what not... theres a reason you have to push the button for 1 and 2 but not 3.
