Who knows.
Horsepower = (lb/ft * RPM) / 5250
Torque is a measure of force, horsepower is a calculation of work derived from torque.
Hmm let's see, what's American about the GTO? There's that little issue of a Chevy (ok, GM...) 350 under the hood. So what if the original inspiration for the platform was an 8 year-old Opel. Last time I checked, Opel is just GM's main European brand. Is a Ford Focus not an American car because it was designed by Ford of Europe? Bah.
Anyway.
Since the car is going to be built in this country it is presumable that we'll receive the plain old base LS1 that found its way into the Z28 and non Ram-Air Firebird/Trans Am rated at 305 hp. So the thing's a little heavy. The old LT1 F-body cars had no problem breaking into the 13's with less power. This is a traditional bigass car with a bigass motor in it. Nobody's going to take it road racing, and with the huge quantity of parts available for the LS1 anyone who wants to take it drag racing will find no problem.
Hell, people think Supras and 300ZXes are great drag cars when modded out, and those cars clock in within 150 lbs of the GTO. Just remember to keep in mind the type of gains that can be realized on a honking V8 from simple things like a header and exhaust.
