dont remove the resonator! its not worth the trouble!
I removed mine earlier this year(2002) and for firsts...it ruins your fender lining and its a bish to get back in right and if u breark one of those push tacks(the only way u can get them out is to break them), you need to buy another one. HOnda charged like $2 a tack and you have about 7 or 8 to hold each fender lining in.
second....it DOES expose your filter DIRECTLY to any road debris/water that can get through your fender lining. I learned this the hard way.
I was driving in real bad rain and went through a 4-8 inch puddle and it got my filter SOAKED! My engine started vibrating like crazy and it shut down. i had to start it and run it for about 40 minutes to get all that water out. I couldnt raise the rpms over 2k cuz it would stall. I dont know about you but i heard water damage on an engine is expensive to repair if its bad. Luckily i didnt get that much water in there.
So, i put it back in and even though its quieter, i feel safer when driving that my engine is protected.
If i were you just put a k&n flter in there and call it a day. Later on you can install a short ram intake and be happy. The 0.5hp the resonator removed gives you isnt worth it.
Dont know if u will listen to me, but i'm just warning you. Even though the car sounds kinda cool at WOT....i would rather have a quiet working car than a loud car that has extensive water damage.
