sounds like this is your first build up.
don't do the ls/vtec or the b20/vtec build up. get familiar with working on motors and then venture out and do the ls/vtec setup if you want. i feel the best motor to buy and work with is the b18c1, the bst motor to buy and build up is an sir1 b16a. only $450 for a long block cheap to get started with.

as for the tranny. the ls will be in boost longer per gear, but will nto acclerate as quickly as the transmission found on the b18c1. you can swap b series tranny's on any b series block.

the spoon tranny is pretty much a spec r tranny from honda with the spoon logo. no real need to buy it, and ordering in a big object like that from spoon will slow down your buildup cause you will NOT receive that tranny for a few months. spoon isn't that large of a company.

buy a b18c1 swap and boost it. buy a quaiffe LSD and put it in your tranny. you'll be happy with it. you'll may have to shift into 5th gear by the end of the quarter mile, but it's not a big deal.


ls or gsr tranny are both fine. i'd rather have a gsr tranny than the LS, that's all personal preference.
