the quicker you can bang thru your powerband and gears, the faster youll get down the track. but i made a mistake on what i said. your tranny will depend on what tires you are running, and your gearing will depend on how strong your powerband is. now obviously (i have to spell this out for all of the "veterans" on this board) you dont want gears so short that you will suffer from wheel spin all the way down the track. but you dont want your gears so long that it takes more time for your engine to build the power it requires to spin the gears. you want a good balance of top end speed but off the line acceleration. on a typical, american powered daily driver (and americans are the ones who pioneered drag racing) you want to bang thru 4 gears, thats all. but if you have tires with massive expansion characteristics, you dont need that many gears because your gear ratios will vary depending upon how much power is being transferred to the tire(s).
