well the purpose of fuses is to help prevent getting your amp blown up. but it's possible it blew up even with both fuses intact. Unlikely... but possible.

I'd tripple check all wires and connections and make sure it's not overheating or extremely cold. Yes the remote lead is a small wire, usually pretty thin. Mine's probably thinner than a toothpick.
