I left my job in Phoenix, AZ at the end of June to search for a position that would ultimately result in my career. Long story short I have been applying and interviewing for jobs since then (several low offers) but nothing has really panned out. About two months ago I was down in Houston for a month on "vacation". At that time I submitted my resume to a company that was in the same industry in which I excel and like (Courier/Transportation Management). I received a phone call about two weeks later to "talk". The COO and I played phone tag for about two months until now (I found out he had a stroke and that's why it took so long to meet). Last week we finally talked about the position. He offered to pay for my gas down (Culver, IN to Seabrook, TX) and put me up in a hotel until Friday. I am here now and we just met today. We talked about the position and finally got to the salary. The offer that he gave is 15k less then what I was making in Phoenix. The job in Phoenix and Seabrook are in the same industry, same customers and same responsibilities, just different markets. From the interview he stated that the companies annually gross revenue is about $5 million which is 3x's the revenue of the company that I left in Phoenix. After doing research the overall cost of living in the Houston area is comparable to the cost of living in Phoenix. How do I make sure that the salary I get is what I am worth? I have over 7 years of experience in this industry, a BS in Business from IU and will finish my MBA hopefully within the next two years. Before I left the interview the most senior manager at the company pulled me aside and gave me a walk-through and showed me the warehouse and all that jazz. Candidly she said that the offer is low and was what she was offered as well. She then said that she took the original offer and now makes over 4x's that much in a little over a year. I know every person and every situation is different, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot and travel all the way back to Indiana to start all over again. I have just enough money to last for about 3 - 4 months without working.
