I don't think I have ever been this tired in my life. I just got thru my first week of my surgery rotation and it is the most exhausting thing I have ever done. I put in approximately 70 hours this week (and it would have been more if I didn't cut out early today). Part of those hours was a marathon 30hr shift starting Tuesday at 5am and going until Wednesday at 10am. Yes I did have a bed but only got 2 hours of interrupted sleep due to being called in for consults.
At the same time this has been the best rotation I have had so far. I am learning more than I have learned at any of my past rotations due to teaching sessions and grand rounds headed by the attending physicians and a mandatory journal club I have to meet with. They also have been letting me do a ton of shit. Generally I am 2nd assist on surgeries but I have been able to do some incisions, electrocautery, and suturing (although mostly I just retract shit for the surgeons).
Yesterday I got to assist with a mastectomy...they didn't let me take the boob home tho
