Yeah Barcelona is big... but city centre is fairly small. You could walk. The subway system is all underground so not much to see if you take that option.
The Hop on Hop off is a good way to see the city and the building (barcelona's archetechture is def worth seeing.) It will also drop you off in the most popular places to visit. It's easy to see the building for a vantage point.
Depending on how long you'll be in barcelona you could get the hop on hop off for 48 hours and then travel by subway/walk
there is also a cool gondula system there...
