The villages are in place for the "NPC" (non-playable character) update coming in 1.9.

I think I'm there right now. Kinda crazy seeing random blocks missing from the Enderman.

Don't forget about the abandoned mines and strongholds. The mines are everywhere, the 1 stronghold per map.
