Yes, they did. A cool concept, but fatally flawed by throttle lag and quite a lot of noise.
Ghia built the bodies for 50 prototypes. They had a reduction gear coupling to the then-current three-speed Torqueflight automatic.
Vmax for the turbine was something like 40K rpm. Four survive today; I think Leno owns one.
