Automotive News (sub. req.) reports that Honda is once again working on a "spiritual "successor" to the long-dead
Acura NSX. Though we've heard ramblings that
Honda was developing a new-generation NSX, this is the only time we can remember hearing direct quotes from
Honda execs confirming the project's existence.
Takanobu Ito, Honda's chief executive officer and president, reportedly told
Automotive News that the Japanese automaker is "working very hard" to develop a sports car that will become the successor to the discontinued NSX. Ito says that the vehicle will be both exhilarating to drive and eco-friendly, which means that it will feature some sort of a hybrid-electric powertrain, according to a Honda spokesman. Ito didn't detail when the hybridized NSX will launch, but he did mention that it will likely be positioned as a high-performance counterpart to the
Honda CR-Z.
