I don't think there's much you can do at this point to reverse the reaction.

Putting an alkaline substance on it might prevent or slow down further corrosion on it. Washing it with water won't completely do the trick, water is acidic itself and won't neutralize the battery acid, which if memory serves is in the neighborhood of ~2.8 pH?
