It's really a good thing you're joining now. The MC Alpha was very incomplete.
- Player damage wasn't there. You can jump off of buildings without dying. Walking through lava was no issue. Aquaman like water-lungs were granted.
- Monsters were on, then off, then on. When first installed, the weren't dying when attacked.

The combination of monsters + damage really cut down on the freeform building and that drove away a ton of folks. There are names I haven't seen since the monsters update.

You're experiencing the game the way it was intended to be played.
