Need to get JDM GSR Swap running!! Please Help!!!
Ok, fellas.... I need some help!
I just swaped in a 2.0L JDM GSR into my '99 LS this weekend. Here is the setup:
Import Builders Re-build GSR w/
- Golden Eagle 'Godzilla' Sleeves bored and honed to 84mm
- Eagle Rods
- Wiseco 11.8:1 Pistons
- Skunk2 Stage 2 Cams
- Skunk2 Cam Gears
- Portflow Valve train
- R/C Engineering 440cc injectors
- Hondata Stage 2
- Balanced Crank
- All new pumps, bearings, seal, gaskets, etc.
The problem is that since I'm using the Hondata, I need to run an OBD1 ECU. However, I.B. sent me the wrong OBD2 to OBD1 Jumper. And I need to get to work.
Several people advised me that I could run the Engine off of my LS ECU and it wouldn't hurt anything since I would be babying it anyway while I was breaking it in. That way I could at least get to work.
So, I tried starting it up with my LS ECU, and it turned over when it was cool and idled ok at around 1500 RPMs. But after it warmed up for 10-15 minutes, and the idle stepper drops the idle RPMs down and then engine just wants to die. It won't run anything under 1500 RPMs. And then since it is warmed up, and it wants to start up at the normal idle speed (around 700 RPMs or so) and the thing just doesn't want turn over. It it sputters and spits for a few seconds then dies.
It was suggested to me that the MAP and TPS sensors could be mixed up? So, I tried again the next day while switching the MAP and TPS sensor. This time it wouldn't turn over at all. The started cranked away, and... nothing. Even when it was cold. So I switched the MAP and TPS sensors back... and still nothing.
Do you think it is just because the LS ECU is running my engine way to rich on the 440s?
Do you think it will run fine once I get the GSR ECU and Hondata hooked up with the JUMPER?
Or do you think there may be something less that isn't right?
Because there are three things that are not hooked up.
- One is what I think is the Crank Position sensor. It pluged in right under the crank pully on my LS, but I can not find any place for it to plug in on my GSR engine.
- Another is a plug that is wired in with the MAP and TPS sensor. I can not fine any place that it is suppose to go.
- The third is what I think is an EVAP line that run from the canister to the I.M. on my LS Engine. But I can find no such place for it on my GSR.
Do you think that from the first time I ran it, and it warmed up and stalled, and from me tring to get it started, the rich a/f ratio soaked the spark plugs. And that is why it wouldn't do anything the next day (although, I wouldn't think they would still be wet the next day)?? And as I kept trying to start it the next day, the plug just keept getting soaked??
I'm opened to suggestions!!!!!
I should be getting the correct Jumper today. And I want to get it running ASAP!!!!
Thanks for your help!!!
