As I said, detectors are not a preventative measure. There are merely an aid. I check my mirrors constantly and have a sharp eye for a Crown Vic...that's te most important thing. I've never gotten false alarms in the country, and I turn the V1 off in the city. Your radar detector beeps because some stores/banks have automatic doors, which rely on radar to see people. With a high end/mid range detector, it'd show up as X or K band. X band is 100% door openers in the north east, K I slow down for regardless. Ka is always cops. With the V1's directional arrows, it's easy to see if it's a false alarm or not because the left/right arrows will light up as you pass the radar.

I speed constantly and drive alot (70k on my old accord, 20k on my RSX, and about 5k so far on this car) and haven't gotten a moving violation yet...I'd like to think it's due mainly to the V1.
This why I don't see the point in paying $300 for an Escort or more for the V1. No matter what you still need to use common sense and watchout cause you can't get around instant-on laser, aircraft, and cops pacing you with a detector. That's why I reccomend the Bel 950, it's just like the 980 with a few less features and will save you $30, but peforms the same. For $200 the Bel 950 is the way to go.
