yea, unless you're willing to deal out big bucks for a real router for intense networking work you'll be getting a router/switch and a lot of those have a lot of ports, enough for 6 at least. using cat5e should be enough for the kind of stuff you're doing but if you got the money to use cat6 then be my guest.

i'm personally a physical line guy and have lines running through the house that my pops set up while the house was being built. i am itching to have some kind of wireless setup just for the ease and mobility of it. you'll definitely want security set up on wireless if you do and it should be stable enough for you to play your consoles while doing basic stuff with the comp/laptop.
