The recent global economic meltdown has forced numerous automakers to abandon construction of elaborate production plants. From Toyota's delayed grand opening of its Tupelo, MS plant to Honda's on-again/off-again approach to its hybrid plant in Japan, the unpredictable economy has caused quite the construction turmoil. Now, the Nikkei newspaper is reporting that Honda has recommitted to construction of the hybrid plant in Japan. The latest news is that the plant should be operational by 2013 and vehicles will begin rolling off of its lines immediately.

The Nikkei reports that demand for Honda hybrids has risen sharply in both Japan and North America. This increasing demand has convinced Honda to finalize construction of its hybrid plant and open its doors ASAP. Once completed, the plant will serve as Honda's primary research, development and production facility for green vehicles. Specific models to be built at the plant have not been disclosed yet, but we'll be quick to bring you more info when we get those updates.
