A type r is a GsR bottom end with different pistons. It has a B16 head (instead of a GsR head) with slightly upgraded valvetrain (cams, springs, retainers) intake manifold, throttle body and exhaust header (all stated by fat bootay). You can make whats called a 'poor-man's type r' by putting a b16 head on to a GsR bottom end.
