Highschool is absolutely not too young. I'd want bigger gloves on them but the technique, et al is the same.
Kids get into Karate at like 3yo so what's the big deal?
We put my kid into Karate for summer program last year (just before he turned 4) but he got tired of it. I think it was too much because he was in swimming lessons as well.
