Got a lady in the hospital right now with a foot the wrong shade of blue. If the vascular guy can't do some magic, she loses at least the three remaining toes on that foot, maybe more. You can walk surprisingly well with half a foot, below the knee amp, not so much.
One of the keys to doing a good TMA(trans metatarsal amputation) is to lengthen the Achilles tendon when you take off half the foot. If you don't, you end up with an ulceration under the stump of the 5th metatarsal.
