The reason we can't hear anyone in the mic headset if because of the PC's microphone port. I don't think it's made to send audio back out.
my headset takes optical audio straight from the xbox.

and that's exactly why you can't hear anyone in the mic headset. so here's my theory, and i think it'll work. i'm gonna split everything:

splitter from controller with one side going to the input on the computer and that just passes the audio back to the headphones port. second side goes to speaker output on computer which will have just my voice going through it.

splitter from mic/headset with one side going to the mic port on the computer, and the other side going to the headphones port on my computer. that'll be passing chat audio to my headset. i might be able to join the speaker output (with my voice) and the headphones output with the chat audio together into the headset so i hear both together.

i got computer audio into my headset, but couldn't do my voice because i don't the right adapter. i'm pretty sure the xbox stuff is doing mic audio on side (i think left) and chat audio on the other side (probably right) so my mono adapters make it not work right. i'll be picking up new adapters tonight for experiments.
