NEW ORLEANS—A n armed robbery suspect was shot and killed in the act Friday in Kenner.
Det. Shaun Watson of the Kenner Police Department said in a press release the suspect died on the scene, and he was one of three taking part in the robbery.
A second suspect was shot during the confrontation and transported to University Hospital. The third suspect escaped and is still at large, said Watson.
The owner of Dreams Communications and More, located at 3227 Williams Blvd., was approached by three men in the parking lot of the business, said Watson. One of the men revealed a revolver and then struck the owner over the head with it.
Watson said the suspect then grabbed the owner’s backpack and pushed him into a nearby alley. That is when the owner revealed his weapon and shot the suspects.
Watson said the police believe the robbery was caused because the owner cashed checks for Hispanic customers. The suspects had identification cards from Honduras, but their identities will not be released until they are confirmed.
After being released from University Hospital, the second suspect will be charged with armed robbery and then transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, said Watson. He also said the owner will not be charged with right now.
